From her trips to the west coast, she brought back films that show the Wadden Sea in the rhythm of the tides. The uniform cycle of ebb and flow forms the outer framework. Embedded within it, one sees everyday events. Curlews gather food from the ground or from plants. The rising water fills the tidal creeks. The routines of nature are not spectacular.

Alexandra Mitlyanskaya’s videos are one-shot videos, i.e. videos that were shot in a single take. There are no cuts, but there are repetitions, so-called loops or continuous loops. In this way, they resemble the routines of nature such as ebb and flow. The reproduction as a long shot further emphasises the vastness of the natural space of the North Sea coast.

The spectacular in the everyday is characteristic of these films.

On Saturday, 20 September 2025, we will be showing nature films at 12:30 p.m. as part of the ‘After the Market’ series.
