Scholarship music composition 1.8. – 30.9.2023

What made you apply for the otte1 scholarship?
I am aware that it is an incredible privilege, but I really like that in my job, that it allows me to live somewhere else for a while. And not just as a holiday but to really spend my everyday life in a new environment. During my residencies so far, there have always been surprising discoveries that have strongly influenced my artistic work. I came into contact with themes that I would have known only vaguely or not at all without these opportunities. The residency scholarships broaden my horizons. That’s why I apply for them when there is an interesting opportunity.
With Ensemble Reflektion K, Eckernförde has an excellent new music ensemble, which of course makes the scholarship very attractive for composers. Only a few scholarships offer this working environment and this close exchange.

What did you work on during your stay?
I worked on a large piece for ensemble and 2 voices, which will be premiered in october as part of the Donaueschingen Music Days.

What inspired you at the Künstlerhaus in Eckernförde?
Living directly at the harbour and on the beach and at the same time in the beautiful city centre was a special experience for me. A highlight of my everyday life was going for a walk or a run along the Noor. I really enjoyed the peace and quiet there.

What do you take away from Eckernförde for your further artistic development?
It is perhaps too early to answer this question. But the navy on the other side of the bay kept my mind very busy. Somehow I could hardly block it out and enjoy the sea view. The permanent presence of the military does not let me forget the current wars and conflicts. I was also amazed at the same time how there was hardly any criticism of the military tents advertising a career in the military on the beach. I was shocked to see how this offer of beach volleyball appeals to minors.

What would you like to add?
I would like to thank the board of the artists’ house! I really appreciated and enjoyed your hospitality! I would also like to thank Ensemble Reflexion K very much for the beautiful rehearsals and the performance of my music. It remains very much in my memory!
