Artists Statement

Alexandra Mitlyanskaya

scholar visual arts  1.7. – 30.9.2025

What made you apply for the otte1 scholarship?

I was lucky to get scholarships in Germany earlier, the first one was in 1995, when I was a scholarship in Berlin Academie der Kunst. Time spent in Germany was always very productive and I decided to try again. Besides, Germany is a country where I feel at home and communicate with people easily.

What did you work on during your stay?

During my stay in I shot videos in Husum, Plön, Rendsburg, Riesabu, and in Eckernförde as well.

What inspired you at the Künstlerhaus in Eckernförde?

In Eckernförde in windy and sunny days I was inspired by light and shadows of the curtains waving in the wind. In murky windy days I was inspired be a huge fur tree which I could see every day from the staircase.

What do you take away from Eckernförde for your further artistic development?

I was very much impressed by fantastic landscapes and romantic beauty of your country, I mount videos and work under video installations. One of videos shot in Plön is on show now in The State Art-Historical museum in New Jerusalem.

What would you like to add?

I was very happy in Eckernförde, I appreciate very much that a was absolutely free, but I did not feel alone. Thanks a lot for such opportunity!
