Self-Expression and Selfie Mania
On Saturday, 9 August, at 12:30 p.m., the ‘After the Market’ series will focus on self-portraits.
In self-portraits, artists have long grappled with the ‘I’ and explored the existential question ‘Who am I?’ From Dürer’s self-portraits to the social mass phenomenon of selfies, we encounter all kinds of self-representation.

The world is in a selfie frenzy: every day, millions of people take photos of themselves and post the images online. Self-portraits are not a new phenomenon in themselves. But there is a difference compared to the past. The great self-portraits of art history preserve time. Selfies, on the other hand, capture a fleeting moment.

The exhibition presents a kaleidoscope of famous works from art history to self-obsessed and silly posts from the internet.
Preoccupation with oneself is as old as humanity itself.
Be curious.
