Photography in Transition: Material, Body, Time – Laetitia Heisler
On 25 April at 12.30 pm, Laetitia Heisler will offer an in-depth insight into her artistic practice at the Künstlerhaus.
In her current artistic practice, Laetitia Heisler explores photography as a malleable medium. The starting point is a variety of photographic processes, ranging from the analogue darkroom to instant photographs, which are understood as vehicles for transformation. The photographic image becomes physically tangible and increasingly detaches itself from its purely representational function. The body, employed in the self-portrait and integrated into various processes, is a situated space of inscriptions and experiences. In parallel, the question arises regarding the material conditions of photographic processes. The work navigates a tension between an intense physical engagement with material and a growing awareness of ecological issues, as well as the associated cognitive dissonance.
The presentation offers an insight into ongoing artistic inquiries and a work process in the making. It presents an open-ended research status of her work and understands photography as a system in transition between image, material and body.
