DreamColourForm – Surreal Worlds
Lecture after the market on Saturday, 6 July 2024 at 12:30 pm
“We still live under the rule of logic” (…) “The absolute rationalism that is still in use only allows the consideration of facts that are closely linked to our experience” – states André Breton in his Surrealist Manifesto of 1924.
In contrast, he emphasises the considerable role of dreams in human psychic activity, which “has hitherto received so little attention.” From then on, the sphere of dreaming formed an essential basis of surrealist art, for example in the films of Luis Bunuel, the paintings of Leonora Carrington or René Magritte.
Rainer Beuthel’s reading of dream protocols, combined with masterpieces of surrealist painting, leads us into a world of illogicality and hidden desires and fears. Text and image create a variety of references, accidental or unconsciously intended?
In the second part of the event, Anja Römisch, art historian and board member of otte1, will offer the opportunity for an in-depth look at the artworks presented.
Admission is free.
