… the most revolutionary consciousness is to be found
among the most ruthlessly exploited classes:
animals, trees, water, air grasses…
Gary Snyder, Earth Household

In 1982, the Dutch museum director Rudi Fuchs – elected for the first time by an international selection committee – stages his documenta based on the idea of freeing contemporary art from all forms of social utilization. Art is to be once again encountered with dignity and respect. The theorization of the documenta until then is replaced by its poetization.

Isolde Wawrin opened her artistic participation in documenta 7 with this poem by Gary Snyder. Working across many decades, Isolde has experienced consciousness in Germany during the shift between the Second to the Third Industrial Revolution. This shift is shared by all of us. She visits Otte1 to share a talk after the market on her decades long art practice and afterwards share experiences with the scholarship holders.
