… And to the Dust we shall Return
On Saturday, 1 March 2025, we will show a short film by Ieva Balode after the market at 12:30 pm
Ieva Balode (born 1987 in Riga, Latvia) is an artist and film activist who works with analogue photochemical film. She participates in international exhibitions and festivals with her works and presents her work in installation, film and performance situations. As a curator, she is a founding member of Baltic Analog Lab – an artist collective that provides a space and platform for analogue film production, research and education. She is also the director of the experimental film festival Process, which has been taking place in Riga since 2017.
She says of herself: ‘I am interested in human consciousness and the transcendence within it. In my artistic practice I work mainly with analogue images – both still and moving images.I am particularly interested in experimental image making in the laboratory and using these images to express concepts that I create and live in my own life.
Human beings always tend to avoid any kind of unexpected change in their lives, even if they want it – it is always a painful and unpleasant process that can last from a week to a year or even longer. What if someone gave us the opportunity to watch our own home turn to ashes? Maybe that could give the whole thing a different quality.’
